About Me | Counsellor & Psychotherapist | Purple Apple Tree

about me

My name is Caroline Moylan and I am the founder of Purple Apple Tree. I am a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and therapeutic coach, working with adults and couples both in person and online.

My approach is grounded in psychotherapy and in the belief that understanding ourselves more deeply can help us make sense of the way we think, feel and relate to others. Sometimes we come to therapy because something has happened, at other times there may simply be a sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed or that something in our lives needs to change.I also provide therapeutic coaching for people who want to think about what comes next. This can be particularly helpful when you have goals or changes you would like to make, but past experiences, patterns or uncertainty seem to be getting in the way.

Special interests

I work with people experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, but there are some areas I have developed a particular interest in through my therapeutic and professional experience.Relationships are one of these. I am interested in the patterns that can develop between people and in understanding what may be happening beneath recurring difficulties. This includes my work with couples, but also the relationships we have with family, friends, colleagues and ourselves.

I am also interested in significant life transitions, including perimenopause and menopause. These can happen at a time when many women are also navigating changes in relationships and family life, children becoming more independent, ageing or losing parents, caring responsibilities, and increasing demands or changes at work. It can be a time when questions about identity, priorities and what we want from the next stage of life begin to emerge.

Having spent many years in senior and executive leadership roles myself, I understand something of the pressures that can come with managing professional responsibility alongside everything happening outside work. This also informs my work with women and professionals navigating change in different parts of their lives, whether through psychotherapy or therapeutic coaching.

My organisational experience

Alongside my therapeutic practice, I bring over 25 years' experience working across mental health and purpose-driven organisations in the UK and Australia. My career has included working in services supporting people through complex life challenges, alongside senior leadership and executive roles across charities, public services and not-for-profit organisations.
This gives me an understanding of organisations from different perspectives: the emotional impact of working in services that support others, the pressures experienced by leaders, and the importance of creating environments where people can work well without assuming that individual resilience is the answer to every challenge.

I work with organisations through psychologically informed consultancy, reflective practice, enhanced employee support and support for leaders. My work brings together therapeutic insight with practical organisational experience, helping organisations think more deeply about how they support the people who support others.

Having led and worked within regulated services, I also understand the importance of quality, governance and organisational assurance. This enables me to help organisations explore what 'good' looks like in practice and consider how they can better support their people, so that those working in demanding roles are themselves supported to provide the best possible care and support to others.

choosing a therapist or coach

Taking the first step towards therapy or therapeutic coaching can feel daunting, particularly if you haven't experienced it before. You may have been holding a lot inside for some time, and the thought of beginning to talk about it can feel difficult.

Finding the right person to work with is important. There are different approaches to therapy and coaching, but just as important is finding someone you feel comfortable talking to and with whom you can develop a trusting relationship.

You can find more information throughout this website about how I work.

When you feel ready, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation, giving us an opportunity to talk briefly about what you are looking for, answer any questions you may have and consider whether working together feels right for you.
